Avanta Education and Training
We know that a lot of training about the Satir Growth Model is being done by many people, groups, and in many different forms. This is something that Avanta will continue to support. At the same time there are some of us who see the importance of some training or workshop that is available from Avanta. The idea is for the next two years to continue with training as the Satir Annual Conference (2005-2006-2007), Diversity Training (2005), and Current Applications in the Satir Growth Model (2005)
Diversity Training The goal is to have at least two trainings in diversity - one on the West Coast and one on the East Coast of the United States. The training on the West Coast will be done in partnership with the University of Washington School of Nursing. We have done this training in the past. It will be held Saturday, May 25th. More information will be available on the Avanta Website soon.
Current Applications in the Satir Growth Model Workshop This workshop was held in 2001and in 2002. We are now offering the program again. This is an in-depth look at the question "How do we deal with today's problems?" It will cover the basic Satir concepts as well as the issue of trauma, PTS, grief and the creative resolution of conflict. Dates: Thursday, September 8 through Monday, September 12, 2005 Place: Dumas Bay Retreat Center, Federal Way (Seattle), Washington CEU: 30 contact hours. The event will be a residential five days and/or weekend event . We will be providing more details including the cost on our website by the end of January. If you are interested let us know since it will be limited to 30 participants.
New Psycho Educational Training and Possible Certification Avanta is working in creating a new psycho-educational program for the general public entitled, "Enriching Your Relationship with Yourself and Others." A book with the same title has been written which will complement the training but will also stand on its own. It will focus on accessing and using inner resources.
The training will use many of the experiential exercises that Virginia created with new ones added that have been developed more recently. The structure of the training will be based on the six phases of the Satir Process: Making Contact, Validating, Facilitating Awareness, Promoting Acceptance, Making Changes and Reinforcing Changes.
Our vision is that persons from all around the world will become approved trainers in this new program. The Saturday track at the Satir Conference 2005 in Waterloo, Ontario will be the first time the training will be offered by Sharon Loeschen.
As Jean McLendon wrote in her letter "This curriculum offers a prototype for Avanta to certify trainers and master trainers to deliver the program. This program will bring Virginia's teaching to many different walks of life." (December 13, 2004, p.2)
