Dear Friends

In December I did a lot of work on this computer for the January Bulletin and some how I sent it, along with 10 other documents, to that secret hole where documents go. Even Louise could not find them. So they went bye-bye. After a short temper tantrum I moved into that philosophical place that asks what is it all about?

The answer was an old one:  We do not have as much control as we would like and that this is small loss in comparison to all that is happening in the global community.  So, after a short prayer I moved into the January Bulletin.

In December you received Jean McLendon President's letter sharing her own process and the Board decisions and plans for Avanta. It is now our job (Louise and I) to give you more details. But before we do that, I want to briefly share what this means to me.

Meaning

It means a full time job for 2005 and probably for 2006. It means to work within a plan that could probably move into a scale down operation or change of Avanta as we now know it. After the November meeting, I took upon myself to see how we could turn the tide. Now after several weeks of poor sleep and checking about what is and what could be I am  accepting other ideas. This means that I am sailing with the current towards new possibilities. I will do my best; and continue to work hard as always in these next two years.  I am already starting to think how my life will look like in 2007.

Another very important fact in my thinking comes from looking at the world around us. We are part of a global family. We all know of the amount of pain, conflict, natural disasters, and wars that are going on all around us. This capacity to see beyond myself and Avanta, gives me a more balance perspective for Avanta and of my own life.

I am thankful for the many years we have been in existence and the way we would continue the work. I appreciate all the support, love and caring so many  in Avanta have given me. And for that I say thank you.

The next two years

As Jean wrote we are to pursue an active strategy committed to increase Avanta’s visibility, inclusively, diversity and worldwide impact. You will see more details latter. And as we do this we need you. I  want to encourage you to sail with us. The more we do, the more we contribute, the stronger we will be now and in the future. If each of us do our part, and bring new members to walk and work with us, the more successful we will be in the present and the more prepared for a fitting transition in the future.

I want to end this letter asking you to read carefully all the activities and ideas we are sending your way. See how and in what areas you feel excitement and willingness to support in an active way. See who you can bring to our Satir Conference, and who you can invite to join Avanta.

Peace, Margarita M. Suarez, Executive Director
