Board of Directors Elections by Mail

 

The idea of holding an election by mail has been around for some time. After checking our bylaw, getting legal consultation, checking with the Nominating committee, and discussion at the November Board Meeting, the Board decided to give elections by mail a try in 2005. The needed changes in the Bylaws have been made. We also found out that as a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of California, we can have elections by mail or at the Annual Organizational Meeting. We can not have a mixture of elections by mail and at the organizational meeting.

 

Please note that the Board really encourages and wants as many members as possible to participate in this election. The goal is to have more participation of the membership.

 

Here are the steps for the 2005 elections by mail for the Board of Director positions.

  1. From now until February 15th, if you or you have names of other Avanta member(s) who wants to run for the Board of Directors please contact Diana Hall, Chair of the Nominating Committee at dianahall_mft@yahoo.com or at 650-574-2294.

  2. March 7th a list of nominees and their bios from the Nominating Committee will be emailed and/or mailed to the membership.

  3. March 8 - 25th Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the Avanta Office by mail or email.

  4. April 4th A slate of nominees (from March 7 and nominees from the floor) along with their resumes will be send by email and/or mail to the membership.

  5. May 2nd Ballots will be mailed to all members in good standing. According to Avanta's Bylaws a member in good standing has paid their dues and or has requested a reduction or waiver and that has been done before April 30th.

  6. Deadline: Ballot must be received by May 27, 2005.

  7. Announcement of the election will be done by June 6th. New Board members will take office on Monday, August 1, 2005 at the Avanta Organizational Meeting in Waterloo, Canada. Newly elected Board Members will be invited to attend pre-conference Board Meeting July 27 through July 30 to observe and staying for the August 2nd Board Meeting.
