Certified Satir Trainer Requirements

 

In order for you to become a certified trainer the following requirements have been established—the educational requirement is that the person holds a Master’s degree in a relevant field, or its equivalent. (Avanta faculty is grand-parented in.) Several paths of training programs for certification have been developed depending on the person’s experience with the Satir Growth Model.  They are as follows:

 

1)      For persons with at least three years in teaching the Satir Growth Model.

·          Complete Levels 1 and 2 satisfactorily.

·          Read the Trainer’s manual and discuss content and questions with a master-trainer.

·          Submit two evaluations to a master trainer assessing your ability to teach and model the steps/skills of the Satir Process.

 

2)      For persons with at least 45 hours training in the Satir Growth Model, but without experience in teaching the Satir Growth Model.

·          Complete Levels 1 and 2 satisfactorily.

·          Read the Trainer’s Manual.

·          Participate in mentor training meetings. (The nature and number of these will be determined according to need.)

·          Observe certified trainers and write up structured observations, based on the six steps/skills.

·          Co-lead trainings with a certified trainer and debrief.

·          When approved, lead Levels 1 and 2 and submit two evaluations to a master-trainer, one from a certified trainer and one as a self-evaluation.

·          Submit a letter of recommendation from a certified trainer to a master-trainer.

 

3)      For persons without training in the Satir Growth Model, prior to Levels 1 and 2.

·          Complete two cycles of Levels 1 and 2 (42 hours) satisfactorily.

·          Read the Trainers’ Manual, the Satir Process, and the Satir Model and discuss through structured questions with a certified trainer. 

·          Participate in mentor training meetings with a certified trainer.  (The nature and number of these to be determined according to need.)

·          Write observations of a certified trainer conducting Levels 1 and 2 training, using a structured process based on the six steps/skills.

·          Co-lead trainings with a certified trainer and debrief.

·          When approved, lead two Level 1 and Level 2 trainings and submit evaluations to a master-trainer, one from a certified trainer and one as a self-evaluation.

 

4)      For persons who want to become trainers for Level 3:

·          Be a certified trainer for Levels 1 and 2.

·          Have extensive experience in the designated area of specialization, for example, five years experience in the health care field.

 

There will also be a certification process for trainers who want to become master-trainers.  Master-trainers are responsible for training trainers.  Requirements to be a master-trainer are as follows:

 

·          Lead Levels 1 and 2 at least three times.

·          Submit participant evaluations from all trainings to a master-trainer.

·          Submit a self-evaluation based on the six steps/skills to a master-trainer.

·          Co-lead mentor training with a master-trainer.

·          Lead mentor training.

·          Obtain a letter of recommendation from a master-trainer.

 

The financial requirements for a certified trainer are as follows:

·          Pay annual membership dues to Avanta.

·          Pay an annual certification fee.

·          Pay a specified percentage of participant fees collected to Avanta.
