Report from the Fund Development Committee - Grace Yung,

Functional Director

Dear Friends of Avanta and Members,

I hope this letter finds you well in all aspects of your life.

I am Grace Yung, the Fund Development Functional Director and leader of the Fund Development Committee.  Sharon Loeschen, Nancy Macdonald, Esther Lau, Maureen Graves and I, members of the committee, send our love and energy to you and ask for your support in whatever way fits for you.

As you may have read, our President has described Avanta as moving from adolescence into adulthood and so the board has made a commitment to only spend what it makes as of 2007.  With this in mind, we are hoping to raise a minimum of $10,000 by the end of the year.

We, therefore, solicit your active participation in renewing your commitment and contributing your new ideas, wisdom and expertise to help re-vitalize the organization.  So far, we have come up with the following fundraising activities:

  • We are launching a campaign of continuing Virginia’s dream of peace and justice by "building" a portable "Satir Wall of Peace and Justice" which will honor persons who have worked for her dream in the past or want to do so now. People will be able to purchase bricks to build the Satir Wall of Peace and Justice. More details will be coming out next month in a separate news bulletin.

  • We will be recruiting persons to take out "Life Memberships."  This means that current and new members who choose to become a life member can pay a one-time sum of $900 and be paid up for life.  We have chosen the figure $900 as continuing the theme for Virginia’s 90th birthday celebration.  We hope many of you will take advantage of this offer.  Contact the Avanta office for details.

  • Nancy Macdonald, John Banmen, Sharon Loeschen, Maureen Graves and Jean McLendon, among others, have already committed themselves to doing or organizing some programs to raise funds for Avanta.

  • We are also considering acknowledging members and friends who have contributed to the Satir global family by adding a column in the bulletin entitled, "Gratitude Corner."  We would like your thoughts about this idea.

I wish we will all continue to utilize our resources and creativity to help Avanta to fulfill its aims as spelled out by our President and I appreciate and welcome your recommendations.  Please write to me at gracesmyung@gmail.com or to any of the committee members.

Hope and Peace Among,

Grace Yung
