Feedback on the Reasons for Avanta - Jean McLendon, President

Summary of President’s Report  to the Board of Directors on March 16, 2006

The Satir Institute/Group list serve is comprised of 22 groups.  I requested information from these groups in preparation for a board meeting where major decisions regarding the future of Avanta were to be decided.

I received responses from 12 of the groups prior to the meeting and verbal information by a board member for another group.

I categorized the information into groups dependent on the meaning I made of their desire or lack of desire to have Avanta continue.  12 of the groups were mildly to strongly positive about the continuation of Avanta and the potential for it’s value in the future.  2 groups responded negatively, i.e. one saying no need but open to be convinced and one saying no value or need for it.

Below are sentences using the words of the respondents that reflect the essence of each group’s message.

  1. Avanta is the hub to facilitate and network among the various groups and individuals.

  1. Unity among the different centers is very important in the future.

  1. I am a third generation practitioner.  I am willing to support Avanta for my and the next generation.

  1. I have curiosity, excitement, and hope for Satir Growth Model with Avanta’s downsizing.

  1. Retire it.  It was to be a training arm and is no longer.  Convince me otherwise.

  1. Avanta is a huge arm that can hold us together- the-ones who are curious about Satir teachings and touched by the work.  Avanta is like the family house.

  1. It matters to me that Avanta exist.  It means that Satir's dream is a reality.

  1. There needs to be an International Satir Organization.  It would be best if it were Avanta.   If it is not, I expect it will be us.  As the Grateful Dead said, "One man gathers what another spills."

  1. If Avanta is no longer there, the impact for us is that more people will be attracted to what we have to offer.

  1. We do not dissolve a family. Avanta offers a broader base and deeper meaning for connections between individuals and groups than those that would emerge without it.

  1. Avanta represents the spirit of Satir.

  2. We would love to have more connection with Avanta and other Satir friends around the world. Our board has decided to send one representative to attend the Avanta Celebration Conference.
