Conference Liaison Role: an
Introduction
- Stuart Scott
As
soon as I learned of Avanta late in 2004, I joined. Six months later,
attending the 2005 conference in Canada, I instantly knew Avanta was a fit
for me. I’ve never felt such a powerful sense of belonging in my life. So I
am happy and honored to join the Board of Directors this year, and
contribute to the health and vitality of
this extraordinary community of people.
As the Board
takes on the day-to-day functional duties during this
period of
transition, I have been asked to serve as the board’s Conference Liaison.
The purpose of this role, simply stated, is to make sure our annual
conferences continue to be extraordinary, powerful, valuable events for all
participants.
I’m excited (and
maybe a bit overwhelmed) by this opportunity to contribute to the vitality
of Avanta. I hope especially to build bridges to others in the world who
share our aims. As a management consultant, I’ve been using Satir models in
my work for nearly 15 years. I’ve met many people outside the therapeutic
professions who are as drawn to this work as I am. So I hope my background
in business can create new openings for Avanta and our conferences to reach
people we haven’t reached before.
My role on the
Board is a new one, and we’re all just beginning to figure out what’s
needed. I know I will continue to rely heavily on Margarita Suarez, John
Banmen, and Louise Witt for their invaluable knowledge of what it takes to
produce a successful conference.
I ask for your
support as well, in the form of two questions: How can you share a measure
of your passion, wisdom, and experience with the world through our
conferences? What do you see as missing from our conferences that you could
help us to add?
I invite you to
contact me with your thoughts and feedback. Please call me at 201-670-0285
or email me at
