Information Technology
News - Sherry Heinze

A lot of people at the conference and the Annual Meeting brought up ideas and questions about the Avanta website, the Satir Registry, and different ways to communicate using the internet. I am delighted to see so much interest, and so many people willing to share ideas.

Because I am new to the Board and the Board functional directorship roles are new as well, I am going to need a little time to investigate possibilities. Next year's budget is due very soon and the funding for Information Technology for next year is very limited. So I will be looking for ways to provide the best service we can for the least cost. All ideas will be looked in to as time permits, and suggestions are welcome. We will need to do fundraising for any project, as I think you all know. We will need more volunteer involvement than ever, with the limited budget we have for 2007. If you know of minimal cost technology we can use to spread information, please let me know.

Karla Lang offered to collect information from the institute and use a newsgroup to pass it on between the institutes, and Steven Buckbee set the newsgroup up for her. I expect that the institutes will have been contacted and a liaison for each institute will have signed up by the time you read this. Both the Avanta website http://www.avanta.net/Events/Events.htm and the Satirworks newsgroup http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/satirworks/ Calendar show scheduled events as the information is entered. Karla has agreed to collect information for the list of events, post it on Satirworks and pass it on to me for the Avanta website as well.

A lot of information is already available on the Avanta website; I think you will be pleasantly surprised to see how much. I was delighted to find links to so many groups using Virginia's work. The "For Members" link http://www.avanta.net/Membership/MembersOnly.htm allows members to find information on other members. As the information on upcoming events reaches us, it is added to the Events and Workshops page http://www.avanta.net/Events/Events.htm. The new Functional Directors are available from the Get Connected page http://www.avanta.net/GetConnected/get-connected.html. Take a look around. There is enough activity on the Avanta site that if you goggle "Virginia Satir: we are the first (of 137,000) entries. Discussions continue on several Satir related newsgroups (www.yahoo.com,  select group and search on Satir). Join us and stay involved between conference.
