Greetings
from your Secretary,
When I became the secretary for Avanta, the major responsibility of the role
was to take the minutes for our Board meetings and the Annual meeting,
however, with the changes we are experiencing, my role has expanded. For
example, I will be working as a liaison with the Nominating Committee.
Elections 2006
From Diana Hall, chair of the Nominating Committee and myself, we want to
thank you for your participation in the 2006 election. Remember, this was
our second election by mail with the addition that you could also vote by
email or fax. As already reported to you, the results were as follows:
Stuart Scott and myself for three year terms and Sherry Heinze for a one
year term replacing Hugh Gratz.
The change of the Board was done at the Annual Meeting and we also selected
the officers of the Board. They are as follows: Jean McLendon, President,
Eileen Strider, Treasurer and myself as Secretary.
Elections 2007
And now looking forward to next year's election, our time-line will be
earlier due to the fact that our Annual Meeting will be held in May 2007 at
the Prague World Family Conference.
The three persons whose term will be up next year are in alphabetical order:
Sherry Heinze (remember she had a one year replacement terms), Maureen
Graves and Jean McLendon. They will be deciding by December if they are
running again and will notify our chair of the Nominating Committee, Diana
Hall, of their decision. In December, we will also solicit nominations from
our members as well.
In January, the Nominating Committee will develop a slate of candidates
which will be announced in February by email, mail and posted on Avanta's
Web site. The members will also be given another opportunity to sent nominations
from the floor by
email, mail or fax.
Then in March, the Ballots will be sent and April 14th the results will be
announced. We will be sending more details later on after the Board meeting
in November.
This is a very exciting and important time for Avanta. You can connect with
any one of us Board members to hear more about the job and/or if you have any
questions. We want to encourage you to get involved as soon as possible. If
you would like to run for the Board or know someone that you think would be
a good Board member, please let Diana Hall know. Her email is
