Gloria Taylor

About Gloria
Gloria's background is as a nurse with a MA in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy. She practices and lives in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Gloria has been described as a quiet beacon which "will never stand up before us and talk about the generous gifts she has given to us. She sits quietly in the middle, bereaving acutely what is happening in the room, getting her own satisfaction from her own wisdom gleaned from the brilliance of the Satir Model and molded into her own personal brilliance." (Sandy Novak)

Gloria has two children and four grandchildren. We saw many of the family photos at her celebration. Some of us have witness her love and caring for the next generation. We have seen her sitting with her granddaughter, Taylor, when she was little, and beaming as she sat with her.

Satir Connection

Gloria attended Process Community Level I and Level II. She was able to understand and integrate Satir from the beginning. She had presented and brought others to present Satir training and workshops in her area. She started the Satir Learning Center of Ontario. She also worked on "focus family reconstruction "for clients as well as teaching this to many students. As Sandy Novak wrote Gloria "may well be among 2 or 3 leading experts on family reconstruction today."

Gloria joined Avanta in 1991 and besides all her work has chaired two Avanta Conferences and Annual Meetings. One Conference was in 1996 and the other one was in 2005. She volunteer hours and hours of preparation as well as during the Conference. Being the leader she is, she also had members of SLCO helping and the work at the desk, registering and giving information as well as helping with the auction and bookstore. This is one of her main qualities, her capacity to do, and at the same time her capacity to involve others in the "doing". In both Conference she was able to bring great entertainment.

Gloria has also gone outside North America to teach and support programs. She went to Latvia for two weeks as part of an Avanta program and outreach grant. She also went to Malta in 1994 for the Year of the Family. Those who have traveled with her have found her easy going, supportive, and intuitive in deciding what to present as well as how.

Gloria continues to do counseling, teaching, supporting other, and she is also an AMFT supervisor. This year she also presented with Sandy Novak at Avanta's 2006 Conference, this time going out of their comfort zone and presented a new adaptation of the Satir Growth Model.
