The purpose of the Satir Practitioners Registry is to produce a worldwide listing of professionals who identify themselves as using the Satir Growth Model / Satir Process in their profession. We are using the word Satir Practitioner as to differentiate from other registries. The registrants can be people from a wide range of professions including consultants, educators, trainers, counselors, and others.

The registry is divided into four categories. Some practitioners could be in more than one category.

1. Counselor / Therapist

2. Trainer / Speaker / Workshop Leader

3. Mentor (assists students in their learning and / or research papers)

4. Consultant (business, management, Information Technology, etc.)

What is the general criteria to be listed in the registry?

The criteria for the general category listings (Trainer, Speaker, Workshop Leader, Mentor, Consultant) are:

1. Individual has a bachelor or master's degree or equivalent.

2. Individual has the published ethical code of conduct of her or his profession and agrees to abide to it. If your profession does not have an ethical code of conduct please contact the Satir Office.

3. Individual has knowledge of the Satir Growth Model /Satir Process. Since this registry is a self identified registry there will be no test. However, the registrant is someone who agrees with the general belief system and process of the Satir Growth Model / Satir Process. These individuals have received their training from one or several of the following entities: The Virginia Satir Global Network, Avanta the Virginia Satir Network, a Satir Affiliate/ Institute, or an educational body of higher learning where the Satir Growth Model /Satir Process has been taught by an Virginia Satir Global Network (formerly Avanta) member.

What is the criteria for a counselor / therapist to be listed in the registry?

1. Same as above plus,

2. Individual has a master's or higher degree in their profession or equivalent.

3. Individual has a license, credential or certification depending upon the requirements of their respective profession. Please contact the Avanta Office if you have any questions.

4. Individual has two or more years experience as a counselor / therapist.

What do I do when my profession does not require a license or certification?

I do not have a published ethical code for my profession?

If you do not have a published code of ethics from your profession, please call the Satir Office. The office can offer some ethical codes that would fit with your profession.

What is the definition of the Satir Growth Model/Satir Process?

For purposes of this registry and in a brief form the Satir Growth Model "is the dynamic, humanistic, systems approach to growth. It integrates existing resources to transform and make realistic changes that go toward the empowerment, healing and growth of the individual and the healthy functioning of his or her system. This system can be family, professional, social or political." (A Resource Handbook for Satir Concepts by Johanna Schwab, 1990, p.3)

The Satir Process involves carrying out the beliefs of the model through six core skill sets: making contact, validating, facilitating awareness, promoting acceptance, making changes and reinforcing changes. (The Satir Process by Sharon Loeschen, 2002, p.9)

Who will use the Satir Practitioners Registry?

The registry will be available free for viewing to the general public. Before a visitor can search for a Satir practitioner, acknowledgement of the disclaimer will need to be read and accepted. The disclaimer says:

"People listed in this registry are self identified as Satir Practitioners. The Virginia Satir Global Network does not warrant, guarantee, or specifically endorse any of the practitioners listed on this site. We suggest you read "Choosing a Counselor or Therapist" before deciding upon a counselor."

The disclaimer has been based upon the advice of counsel and other professional listing models.

What will be available to the visitor?

A visitor will enter some basic information to search for a practitioner. The registry will be listed by countries, i.e., the United States, Canada, and Other Countries. A search will list your name, city, state, country, and the best way to contact you. Additional information about your specialties, education, etc. will be provided based on the information you provide on your application. (Do a search)

How do I apply to be in the Satir Practitioner's Registry?

Complete the online application. Once we receive your application and it is reviewed, we will notify you with a link for making payment. Once payment is received  your information online. Click here to complete an  Application online.

What do I put in the description on the application?

We suggest that you provide the visitor with information about you, your specialties, and your education. You are limited to 300 words for the description. When a  visitor does a search information you have include in your description will appear. For example: Visitor searches for a counselor in the area of divorce. If you had divorce in your description, the visitor would get information on you and others within the same search topic and area. (See what others have written by doing a search.)

My situation doesn't quite fit the application categories and criteria. What should I do?

How do I update by application?

You can update your information by entering your user name and password. Click here to update. Follow the prompts for retrieving your password. If you have any problems please contact the Satir Office or fax changes to 206.241.7527. All changes will be handled by email or by fax. Please do not call or leave a messages with changes.

How much does it cost?

There is an one-time setup fee of $25

$10 a month paid annually for Virginia Satir Global Network Members ($120 a year). Special $96

$15 a month paid annually for non-Members ($180 a year). Special $144

The annual fee begins with first month listing and expires the 12th month. (i.e. July 1 to June 30)
