Virginia Satir, internationally-known therapist, teacher, and author, founded Avanta in 1977.  Her vision was to help empower people to reach their full potential.  Virginia invited those who had trained with her and shared her vision to join Avanta.  Since its early years, then, Avanta has been a forum for developing ideas, techniques, skills and training.

Since Satir’s death in 1988, Avanta has carried on her work through national and international conferences, workshops and training efforts, as well as through the efforts of individual members.

In 2007 Avanta name was changed to Virginia Satir Global Network to reflect our global nature. However our mission is still the same.
